License Management

This page explains how Rockxy Pro licensing works from an end-user perspective: what a perpetual license means, how long updates last, what the app’s license states mean, and how to activate, restore, deactivate, or move your license to another Mac. Rockxy uses the same app for Community and Pro. License management lives in Settings → License.

License Model

Perpetual License

Rockxy Pro uses a perpetual license model. In practical terms, that means:
  • you buy Rockxy Pro once for the plan you selected
  • the license remains yours permanently
  • your purchase includes updates through the date shown in Settings → License
  • you can keep using versions released within that covered updates window
The important distinction is this:
  • Perpetual does not mean unlimited future updates forever
  • it means continued use of eligible versions that fall within your license coverage

Updates Window

Rockxy shows an Updates until date for perpetual licenses in Settings → License. That date controls whether a given Rockxy build is still covered:
  • If your installed build was released on or before that date, Pro can stay active on that version.
  • If you install a build released after that date, Rockxy can no longer unlock Pro on that newer build until you renew updates or install an eligible version.

License States You May See

The Status field in Settings → License is the best source of truth for your current state.
Status in the appWhat it means
CommunityNo Pro license is active on this Mac.
Pro (active)Pro is active and fully unlocked on this Mac.
Pro (current version only)Your updates period ended, but this installed Rockxy build is still covered.
This Build Is Newer Than Your LicenseThe installed build is outside your covered updates window, so Pro is not unlocked on this build.
Validation failedRockxy could not verify the stored license on this Mac and needs recovery.
SuspendedThe license is not currently available for use.
DeactivatedPro was explicitly removed from this Mac.

Current Plan Names

Rockxy currently recognizes these Pro plan labels in the app:
PlanActivation scope
Pro Standard1 Mac
Pro Personal2 Macs

Activate Rockxy Pro

Use these steps on the Mac where you want Pro enabled:
  1. Open Rockxy → Settings or press Cmd+,.
  2. Open the License tab.
  3. Click Enter License Key…
  4. Enter your license key.
  5. Enter the purchase account email used at checkout.
  6. Click Activate Pro.
  7. If macOS asks for confirmation to store the license securely, click Continue.
After a successful activation, the License tab shows your status, plan, activation usage, and the updates date for perpetual licenses.

Restore, Deactivate, and Transfer

Restore on the same Mac

If Rockxy already knows this Mac was activated but can no longer reach the stored license securely, the License tab shows Restore on This Mac instead of asking you to start over. Use Restore on This Mac when:
  • you previously denied secure access
  • macOS no longer grants access to the stored license
  • Rockxy asks you to restore secure license access before validating again

Deactivate on the current Mac

To remove Pro from the Mac you are using:
  1. Open Rockxy → Settings → License.
  2. Click Deactivate on this Mac.
  3. Confirm Deactivate Rockxy Pro on this Mac?
Rockxy then removes Pro from that Mac and releases the activation seat so you can use it elsewhere.

Transfer Pro to another Mac

To move your license cleanly:
  1. Deactivate Pro on the old Mac.
  2. Install or open Rockxy on the new Mac.
  3. Open Settings → License on the new Mac.
  4. Activate with the same license key and purchase email.
If you skip the deactivation step and your plan has already used all of its activations, the new Mac may refuse activation until a seat is freed.

When Activation or Validation Fails

Rockxy surfaces license problems in the License tab and, when relevant, through an upgrade or warning banner. Use the table below for the most common cases.

Troubleshooting Checklist

  • Make sure you are using the same purchase email that was used when the license was bought.
  • If you changed Macs, deactivate the old Mac first when possible.
  • If Rockxy shows Restore on This Mac, use that before re-entering your key.
  • If validation is failing temporarily, try Retry Validation Now from Settings → License.
  • If the app says the build is newer than your license covers, install an eligible version or renew updates.
